A court in France has lifted the seizure of the stake of the Russian government to Euronews in the Yukos case
In France, the court withdrew the arrest of shares of the Russian holding VGTRK in Euronews TV channel, superimposed on the claims of the former shareholders of YUKOS, said on Thursday the BBC Russian service.
About the seizure of assets was reported in October 2015. The reason was the decision of the court of arbitration in the Hague, which in the summer of 2014 has satisfied the claim of the former shareholders of Yukos and ordered Russia to pay 50 billion dollars as compensation.
After that arrest on Russian state assets has left Belgium. Her example was followed by France and Germany.
However, on 20 April the district court in the Hague has recognized the decision of the court of arbitration in the Hague is illegal.
According to the BBC, after this court withdrew the arrest of 7.5% stake in Euronews, owned by VGTRK.
“The all-Russian state television and radio broadcasting Corporation (VGTRK), which owns the shares in Euronews, being independent from the Russian Federation structure, and is not responsible for the debts of the past”, – stated in the decision of the French court, extract from which led the lawyer of the Russian side Andrea Pinna. Earlier, a French court refused to stop at the suit of shareholders of Yukos, the construction of the Russian spiritual cultural center in Paris. The plaintiffs demanded the seizure of the land on which the centre, and to withdraw him in favour of former Yukos shareholders. However, the court ruled in favor of Russia, recognizing the object of diplomatic immunity.
