The meeting of the dissertation Council of the Ural Federal University (Urfu) on the issue of deprivation of a scientific degree of the Minister of culture of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky, which was to be held 4 October in Ekaterinburg, has not taken place in connection with absence of the official. As a result, it was postponed for later term, informs a portal E1.ru.
According to the website, for adjournment of the meeting voted 14 out of 19 members of academic Council, five voted against it. About the postponement of the event, I asked the Medina itself. A request he sent to the Chairman of the academic Council Dmitry Fray. “In connection with the inability of my personal presence at the meeting of Urfu 04.10.2016 (trip to the Republic of Kazakhstan) I beg to move that debate to a later date,” – said the Minister.
Е1.ги clarifies that the letter from Vladimir Medinsky came early this morning. According to TASS, Medina is now at the XIII Forum of interregional cooperation of Russia and Kazakhstan in Astana.
According to the adopted procedure, the date of the next meeting should appoint within two months. If Medina again it will not come, to endure no longer, promised scientists.
E1.ru reports that to defend Vladimir Medinsky in Yekaterinburg came three experts: doctor of law, former Senator of the Federation Council of the Tambov region, Evgeny Tarle, head of the center history of wars and geopolitics of the RAS Mikhail Myagkov and politician, essayist, philosopher, member of the Academy of political Sciences, Professor of the Department of history theory and politics, Moscow state University Sergei Chernyakhovsky.
Also at the meeting came expert of the community “Discerned” Ivan Babitsky. In April Babitsky filed in the Ministry of education and science of the Russian Federation statement with the request to deprive Medina of a scientific degree due to the fact that his thesis has no scientific value. As the expert reported on his page in social network Facebook, “the main complaint is of a substantive nature: the work is simply unscientific, and sometimes directly absurd.”
Medina thesis for a doctoral degree in history was called “Problems of objectivity in the coverage of Russian history in the second half of the XV-XVII centuries”. It is dedicated to the notes of foreign travelers to Russia and became a continuation of a series of popular science books “Myths about Russia”.
According to the applicants, the text of Medina “is full of gross errors that are hard to imagine even in the course work of the student of historical faculty.
In the other two theses Medina activists “Discerneth” found illegal borrowing in significant amounts. However, in the case of doctoral thesis the Minister for the history of such charges none.
Commenting on the claims of activists, Medina earlier saidthat he hoped the quality of their work and the “wisdom of the dissertation Council”. It is also assumed that applicants just “liked” his view is: “Any work is good in that case when it gives a different perspective on a particular issue.”
Minister of Medina graduated from the faculty of international journalism MGIMO in 1992. He defended two doctoral – scientists and history.
