British MP Paul Flynn made a demand to change the rules of Boxing after the death of Mike Towell. On Thursday, the Scot left the ring on a stretcher after a knockout in the fifth round of the fight with Dale Evans and was taken to the hospital. Soon the 25-year-old athlete died as a result of brain injury.
“We have to change the rules in many sports and come to realize that the head is a very delicate part of the body. Our mission is to protect and to minimize the number of head injuries as a result of strikes. The sole purpose of Boxing is to bring the opponent to unconsciousness”, – quotes the words of the Deputy of The Guardian.
In turn, the British charity Headway has acted with the requirement to prevent Boxing.
“It was a young father in the Prime of life, and the focus now should be confined to the support of his family. But the question remains – how many more deaths must happen before the Boxing ban? As long as the box will remain permitted by the sport, more and more young people will die or suffer serious illnesses as a result of injuries”, – said General Director of the organization.
The British medical Association and world medical Association (WMA) has also called for a ban of Boxing. “There are several types of traumatic brain injury, and one of them involves a small bleeding in the brain, which develop over time and eventually lead to death,” said the Secretary-General of the SCA.
Before the match with Evans Towell scored 11 victories on a professional ring, one draw, notes TASS.
