At least 10 people were killed in wildfires that are gaining momentum in the North American state of California, reports USA Today. The fire has already destroyed hundreds of homes and forced local authorities to begin an emergency evacuation of tens of thousands of people. Firefighters were unable to bring the flames under control.

Information about the victims to date were received from three California counties – Mendocino, NAPA and SONOMA. According to the authorities, the deaths associated with the fact that the fire had multiple foci, which the people were surrounded by walls of fire.

According to preliminary data, voiced by the leadership of the state, was destroyed in a fire about 1.5 thousand houses and other buildings in Northern California.
