President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev said that the Russian military base in Kant will be withdrawn at the end of the term of the contract. As reported by Aki, the head of state said on Thursday, December 1, at a press conference in Bishkek.
“I believe we absolutely did the right thing on the basis of “Ganci” (the U.S. airbase at the international airport of the capital of Kyrgyzstan, which was withdrawn from the country. – Approx. This also applies to the Russian base,” said Atambayev, answering questions of journalists.
As reported by RIA “Novosti”, the President noted that after the expiry of the contract base “will withdraw” from the territory of Kyrgyzstan.
“We are with Russia will always be strategic partners, but in the future Kyrgyzstan should rely and hope only on its forces, not in Russia, America or another country. We must build our army,” – said Atambayev.
According to Atambayev, he is often reproached for the fact that the us military base from the country was taken, and the Russian left. However, as recalled by the Kyrgyz leader, the agreement on the Russian military base in Kyrgyzstan was signed in 2009 by former President Kurmanbek Bakiyev. The initial term of the agreement ended in 2016. According to agreements reached earlier this year he could be extended for 49 years, and then provided for the renewal every 25 years.
“We left for only 15 years… It cost me nerves, it’s not like many Russian Ministers, but on this issue, I found the understanding of Vladimir Putin and I thank him for that,” said Atambayev.
“But in the future Kyrgyzstan should rely only on themselves. Kyrgyzstan needs to build their strength, we must build his army, because the country to be independent, needs to have an efficient army,” again said the President, quoted by “Interfax”.
