Blogger Alexander Lapshin, having citizenship of Russia and Israel condemned in Azerbaijan to three years in prison for the visiting of Nagorno Karabakh. To serve his sentence, the convict will be in prison. The corresponding decision on Thursday, July 20, carried by the Baku court for serious crimes, reports “Interfax”.

Lapshin was found guilty under article 318.2 of the criminal code of Azerbaijan (“Illegal crossing of state border”), reports Haqqin.az. In this article 281.2 (“Repeated public appeals directed against the state”) was excluded from the indictment, the correspondent of the publication. The court noted that in the course of investigation the accusation is not unfounded.

Meanwhile, the lawyer Eduard Chernin blogger did not rule out that in Baku handed down the sentence will be appealed in the court of appeal. “It is too early to talk about it. I can’t do anything until lapshyn will not say. But this possibility is not excluded”, – said the lawyer.

In the Kremlin on the issue, whether in Moscow for business Lapshin and whether to insist on his extradition to Russia, answered in the negative. “No, this is not the topic of the Kremlin”, – said the press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, as reported by RBC.

The state Prosecutor on Friday demanded to sentence Lapshin to 6.5 years of imprisonment. The blogger was charged with illegal crossing of the state border and appeals to violation of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, said NEWSru Israel.

Speaking with the last word, Lapshin expressed regret in connection with a visit to Karabakh without the consent of Baku. “I am guilty before the Azerbaijani people only in the fact that my actions led to his spiritual suffering. I understand how important Karabakh to Azerbaijan. I under no circumstances did not engage in criminal connection with the Armenian government”, – said the defendant.

A lawyer blogger asked the court to acquit his client. Lapshin on the process did not admit guilt, stating that Nagorno Karabakh is an Azerbaijani territory. According to the blogger, his visits to this region have been the tourist nature and had no political overtones.

In February of this year, Lapshin was extradited from Minsk to Baku and placed in jail. The extradition happened on the same day when the Supreme court in Belarus has recognized this decision lawful.

The Kremlin then announced that the talks about the bloggers who have Russian citizenship, not underway, but is taking legal measures for its protection. The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Israel and the Russian foreign Ministry tried unsuccessfully to prevent his extradition to Azerbaijan. Knesset member Ksenia Svetlova (“Zionist camp”) demanded that the government take more active steps aimed at the release of the Israeli citizen who served in combat units of the IDF, reminds NEWSru Israel.

Belarusian authorities detained blogger in December 2016 at the request of Azerbaijan. Prosecutor General of Belarus, on 17 January adopted a decision to extradite Lapshin. The Minsk city court on January 26, recognized this decision lawful, after which it was appealed to the Supreme court, but to no avail.

In Azerbaijan in relation to his criminal case under article 281.2 and 318.2 (“Illegal crossing of the state border of Azerbaijan, a group of persons by prior conspiracy or by an organized group or with application of violence or with threat of its application”) of the criminal code of the Republic. Blogger threatened with punishment in the form of deprivation of liberty for terms from five till eight years.

According to Baku, citizen of Russia and Israel on the surface without obtaining
official permission of the Azerbaijani side in April 2011 and
October 2012 illegally visited Karabakh, violating provisions of laws
“On the state border of the Republic of Azerbaijan” and “On the passport”.
In addition, in their appeals in social networks, the blogger has been calling
to recognize the independence of the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh
Republic.

After that lapshyn was included in the “black list” for visiting Karabakh without
the consent of the Azerbaijani authorities. Such persons are denied entry into
Azerbaijan. However in June 2015 the blogger moved to Azerbaijan
via Georgia Ukrainian passport due to the difference in rules
the spelling in the documents.
