Famous American boxer Roy Jones Jr. received the passport of the citizen of Russia. The ceremonial event took place in Moscow in one of the Central offices of the Federal migration service of the Russian Federation, reports TASS.
“This is a very big step for me. I am very happy that now I will come to Russia as a citizen of this country. Russia is a great country with great people,” said the athlete.
Boxer noted that already started learning the Russian language.
“I – Russian”, – he said in Russian.
Recall, Roy Jones, Jr. filed an application for Russian citizenship on 20 August, the day after the meeting in Crimea with President Vladimir Putin.
Putin agreed to help him provided that the boxer will associate their future with Russia. On 12 September on the website of the Kremlin was given the text of the decree about assignment of a 46-year-old American athlete citizenship of the Russian Federation.
Next fight he will hold on 12 December in Moscow for the title of super champion by the world Boxing Association in the first heavy weight.
At the time Roy Jones Jr. was considered the strongest boxer in the world regardless of weight category. He began his career in professional Boxing in 1989. Jones was a world champion in four weight categories. The American had a unique achievement – he is the only boxer to have won a champion belt in average, the second average, semi-heavy and heavy weight.
