Press-service of the Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, 9 March, called “false” the publication of the newspaper The Sun, which said that Queen Elizabeth II supports the withdrawal of Britain from the EU. The Queen’s representative stated that it adheres to political neutrality, according to Reuters.

Previously on the front page of The Sun published an article under the title “the Queen supports Brexit” citing an unnamed source. According to a source, Elizabeth at least twice in the last 10 years have made clear that it opposes Britain’s membership in the EU.

In turn, the representative of the Queen in a written response to the publication said that the Queen remains politically neutral – as it was always over 63 years of reign.

“We’re not going to comment on false allegations, taken from anonymous sources. The British people must decide this in a referendum“, – is spoken in the statement of the press service of the Palace.

Recall referendum on the fate of the UK in the European Union will take place on 23 June. Public opinion polls show that the voters ‘ opinion was divided. According to Reuters, even the hint that the Queen supports exit from the EU could have a negative impact on the efforts of those who seek to keep the country in the European Union.
