The WikiLeaks informant Chelsea manning (Bradley manning) on Wednesday released from men’s prison, Fort Leavenworth, after serving a record sentence for the biggest in U.S. history-the leaking of secret information. For her release, WikiLeaks announced on Twitter a fundraiser for manning, and in a few hours got a virtual wallet worth over 100 thousand dollars.
Chelsea manning in 2010, Iraq was known as private Bradley manning – she managed to achieve the right to change the floor in the jail. WikiLeaks got from manning and published hundreds of thousands of military and diplomatic documents. Among them were videos of air strikes, which have killed civilians, hundreds of thousands of reports about incidents at the fronts in Afghanistan and Iraq dossier on prisoners of prison of Guantanamo and about 250 thousand of diplomatic dispatches of the U.S. Department of state.
Bradley was arrested on the spot service. In 2013, the Tribunal sentenced him to 35 years in prison for leaking secret documents about the activities of the government and American diplomats. Despite the sex change, Chelsea manning is serving a sentence in a male prison. It is known that in 2016, the manning twice tried to commit suicide.
The decision to pardon manning and 64 prisoners, President Barack Obama took a couple of days before leaving the White house. The founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, gained worldwide fame after the publication handed Bradley the documents previously statedthat they agree to the extradition to the United States in the case of a pardon for manning. But this has not happened yet.
Since 2012, Assange lives in the Embassy of Ecuador in London. He sought asylum in the Embassy to avoid extradition to Sweden where he is suspected of crimes of a sexual nature. Assange denies all the accusations and calls them politically motivated. He fears that Sweden will deport him to the USA, where the Australian faces up to 35 years in prison or the death penalty for publication of secret documents of the state Department.
