The national team of Russia on football is no basis for the statements about readiness to play in the semi-final home world Cup in 2018. This opinion was expressed by well-known German expert Christoph Daum, who now works with the national team of Romania.
Previously a member of the Executive Committee of the RFU Igor Lebedev said that in front of the main coach of the Russian national team Stanislav Cherchesov tasked with reaching the semifinals of a home world Cup 2018. Daum had the opportunity to evaluate the potential of the Russian national team in the recent friendly match in Grozny.
“Russia can not now declare that are ready to play in the semi-finals of the world Cup. For this there is no reason, given past performance. To leave the group, Yes, and then it all depends on the draw. But I know that when playing at home, the expectations are always very high: the team-the owner always feels a lot of pressure,” said Daum in an interview “R-Sport”.
The specialist turned to history and reminded that the national team Brazil home for the world Cup in 2014, failed to justify the expectations: the team reached the semifinals, where it lost heavily to Germany (1:7).
“The German team for a home world Cup in 2006, I think, expectations were met: we were third, that is, got then to the semi-finals. But it takes time to get used to this. How Russian players get used to this? When they could get used to being in the top four?” – the coach said.
At the same time, Daum opined that Stanislav Cherchesov has extensive experience and has always been a strong motivator. He can give a lot to the national team of Russia on football in the post of the head coach.
“Cherchesov has always been a strong motivator, always striving to make the football team player. We saw in the Euros that the team had a lot of skilled players, but together they looked like one strong team. It will be a priority,” said German.
As a coach Christoph Daum has worked in many European clubs. He won the Bundesliga with VfB Stuttgart, is famous for his work at Bayer and the cocaine, what was caught on the turn of the century.
