The outstanding Soviet and Russian chess grandmaster, USSR champion in chess 1956 mark Taimanov died in the night from Sunday to Monday at 91-year life. About it reports a press-service of the Russian chess Federation.
Taimanov twice participated in the candidates tournament competition, where determined opponent of the world champion in a match for the chess crown. In 1971, in the match of the tournament, lost to future world champion American Robert Fischer with the score 0:6.
In the USSR Championships he has participated 23 times and in 1956 won the tournament. In the national team of the Soviet Union Taimanov won the chess Olympiad and became the quadruple champion of Europe.
In 2014 in St. Petersburg opened a chess school grandmaster.
Mark Taimanov was known not only as a player but also as a pianist. A graduate of the Leningrad Conservatory, performed in piano Duo with his wife Love Brooke.
