In Germany Wednesday, November 2, on 87 year of life died world-famous clown, people’s artist of the USSR Oleg Popov. About TASS said the Director of the Great Moscow circus Edgard Zapashny.
“Oleg Popov died. I just got a call from the General Director of “Russian state circus company” Dmitry Ivanov and reported it,” said Zapashny.
Popov was one of the most famous circus artists of the USSR. He is credited with creating the image of a clown Sunny – cheerful boy with a MOP of straw hair and a large plaid hat.
His circus career began in the 1950’s, after graduating from the Moscow school of circus art. After he worked under the famous clown Karandash (Mikhail Rumyantsev) in the capital circus to Tsvetana Boulevard.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union moved to Germany. There he worked in Egloffstein, under the stage name “Happy Hans”. In June 2015, for the first time after 24 years of living in Germany, visited Russia.
