Dockers Vladivostok sea trade port (VMTP) held a rally against the layoffs, which occurred in early October, reports “Interfax”. The port management has gone to such measures because of “difficult economic conditions”. The protest came more than 200 people.
The Chairman of trade-Union Committee of primary trade Union organization of the Russian trade Union of dockers VMTP Alexander Tolkachev was told that a meeting was held in the square of Anna Shchetinina. According to him, was attended by about 250 people, but the police calls smaller number – about 200 people.
“Today reduced about 35 of dockers container terminal of the port. Another 10 people were left on their own. We demand to restore the downsized employees,” said Tolkachev.
Note that posts in the port did not become less. The administration has introduced new staff positions port workers and drivers, duties of which coincide with the reduced responsibilities of dockers. The salary for these positions is much lower. “None of the downsizing of the dockworkers had agreed not to go to port workers,” said Tolkachev.
In turn a press-Secretary VMTP Mikhail Sokolov explained that the port management is forced to make cuts in difficult economic conditions. According to him, the port authority initially attempted to find a compromise solution, reducing all the dockers have repeatedly offered to move to other positions.
“16 of 59 the downsizing of the dockers has decided to remain in port for other positions. The remaining employees continue to receive all social guarantees stipulated in the collective agreement VMTP. Employees who choose to leave the port, got all required by law to pay,” – said Sokolov.
The head of Primorye Vladimir Miklushevsky appealed to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of group of companies “Amount” Ziyavudin Magomedov with a request to find a compromise on this issue.
Let’s add, that on 9 August the Vladivostok dock workers were going to the rally. The participants of the action protested against job cuts container terminal of the port. Sokolov said that the reduction is due to the fall of traffic in the far East, so is the number of dockers is not required for daily operations in the terminal.
