The new Turkish Constitution should appear in the near future, said President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, speaking at the opening of the autumn session of Parliament.
“We need to promptly adopt a new Constitution. At least it is necessary to adopt large-scale amendments to the law”, – quotes the President of Turkey, TASS reported.
According to Erdogan, he commended the first steps in the drafting of the Constitution made after July 15. “As President, support the drafting of the Constitution, which requires the solution of all problems on the basis of national will. As a popularly elected President I’m aware of their responsibility to the nation,” he added.
Work on the draft basic law was renewed at the initiative of the ruling justice and development after the Commission in July of the attempted coup. After the failure of the coup asked a million rally in support of the government, and Erdogan has stated that will support the initiativeif it is approved by the Parliament.

In 2004 the framework established by the EU requirements to the countries applying for membership, Turkey has officially banned the death penalty.
Before the attempted coup, Erdogan claimed that Ankara’s EU membership is a strategic goal. The EU has warned that the return of the death penalty will stop all negotiations on the accession of Turkey to the European Union.
