The Minister of education and science of the Russian Federation Olga Vasilyeva decided to return to the lessons of astronomy in the school curriculum due to the weaning hours of study in a second foreign language.
“We have 250 hours for the second foreign language, she said in an interview to”Komsomolskaya Pravda”. Second language if not a language school is largely a sham. God forbid that we have one foreign well taught. So I can safely two hours, I will take one in the 10th grade, another hour – at 11-m”.
“Second language and the third is possible and necessary to study optional, but at this level, and he was working after school”, she added.
“Yes, the children are now in school, really, catastrophically overloaded. A large number of items that need to go, to realize, to perceive. But the astronomy one hour!” the Minister emphasized and demonstrated a tutorial on this subject.
“Authors Vorontsov-Velyaminov and Straut, – said Vasilyev. – Basic level. The tutorial is designed for the 11th grade. Physics teacher ready to read astronomy”.
To return to the teaching of astronomy in schools Vasilyev promised at a press conference in Moscow on September 21. “Before, in schools this item was an hour a week. There is no doubt about that this hour must come back”, she said and assured that it will happen.
Astronomy from the basic plan of the school curriculum disappeared in 1991. Before that the study of astronomy was given to 35 hours per graduating class, and it was a separate school discipline.
Currently, the official ban on the teaching of this subject there. Schools may want to introduce it as an elective course, but usually the extra hours to get the core subjects. Astronomy is taught only in schools with profound studying of physics, mathematics and natural Sciences. There are astronomical circles, and in many schools the section of astronomy learning in physics.
In February it was reported that the education Committee of the state Duma offered to return astronomy in the school curriculum, and the Moscow planetarium with the support of Roscosmos held a collection of signatures for this reason. The deputies expressed the opinion that the study of astronomy is important for the formation of the scientific picture of the world and it was a mistake to exclude this subject from the program.
