In Jerusalem on mount Herzl on 30 September was held the funeral of the deceased on Wednesday, September 28, at the age of 93 years, the ninth Israeli President Shimon Peres. He was buried beside the graves of his predecessors and leaders of the Zionist movement, starting with the founder and chief ideologist Theodor Herzl.

As informs NEWSru Israel, before the memorial ceremony for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu exchanged a few words with the President of the Palestinian national authority Mahmoud Abbas. To say goodbye to former President arrived as official representatives of more than 70 countries and tens of thousands of citizens. Speakers noted the huge contribution of Shimon Peres in the development and formation of the state of Israel, the security of the country and to the peace process.

Perez passed away on September 28, before two weeks he was in the medical center “Sheba” after he suffered a massive stroke during a medical examination on September 13. His condition deteriorated, doctors put him into an artificial coma and hooked up to a ventilator. On 18 September the doctors reported that they begin to reduce the anesthesia.

According to the personal physician and the son of ex-President Rafi Waldman, Perez died “without suffering”. Waldman also said that in accordance with the lifetime wish of Perez, the family of the donor agreed to the transplant of the corneas of his eyes. “His corneas donated to those who need them,” said the doctor, coming out to reporters in the clinic, “Sheba” near tel Aviv.

On 5 September, immediately after returning from Italy, where Shimon Peres took part in the international conference, he had surgery to install a pacemaker. The operation was conducted under local anesthesia. The next day he was discharged from the hospital.

Shimon Peres held the post of head of state from July 2007 to July 2014, his political career lasted more than 70 years. He held Ministerial positions in the offices of 12 Ministers of Israel.

Perez is considered the last of the Pleiades “founding fathers” of Israel, the Creator of its military-industrial complex and the nuclear program, the architect of middle East peace process.

In 1994, the signing of peace agreements with the Palestinians, Peres was awarded the Nobel peace prize. For many years, he welcomed the idea of a “new Middle East… where there is no enmity between Arabs and Jews.”

The head of the PNA Mahmoud Abbas called the deceased the ninth President of the Jewish state as a reliable partner in peace talks. As stressed Abbas, Peres, “to the last breath, did everything in order to reach a peace agreement.” He also sent a letter of condolence to the family of the deceased.
