Former Director of the foreign intelligence Service (SVR) Mikhail Fradkov, who, according to media reports, was to occupy the post of Chairman of the Board of Directors of Russian Railways, will soon become Chairman of the Board of Directors of the concern “Almaz-Antey” headed the Russian Institute of strategic studies (RISS). This decision was taken by President Vladimir Putin after a personal meeting with himself Fradkov, and Director of the state Corporation “rostec” Sergey Chemezov.
“We agreed that you will head the Supervisory Board of Russian Railways, but Sergey turned to you with a request, I know, and I went on to use you in “Diamond-antee”, meaning that the defense enterprises, and here and your work not only as Prime Minister but also as head of foreign intelligence would be very useful,” – said the head of state, referring to Fradkov.
Chemezov, in turn, noted that knowledge of the former Director of the SVR will be very useful for the concern “Almaz-Antey”. “The more that there are enough new developments and private nature. For Mikhail Yefimovich is very familiar. And the information which he possesses, I think he will help,” – said the head of Rostec.
Fradkov called the proposal “attractive, interesting ones”. He noted that the industry is familiar to him through his previous work. In addition, Fradkov agreed to another proposal of the head of state to head the Russian Institute for strategic studies.
“Vladimir Vladimirovich, for this special thanks. This is a very interesting proposal. It turns out the “package”: strategic studies, military-industrial problems”, – Fradkov thanked the President of Russia.
Vladimir Putin dismissed Mikhail Fradkov from the office of Director of the SVR at the end of September in connection with retirement. He was replaced by former speaker of the state Duma Sergey Naryshkin. At the same time, Dmitry Peskov, said that in the near future, Fradkov “will be nominated Chairman of the Board of Directors of Russian Railways”.
In mid-October, “Vedomosti” wrote that Fradkov is unlikely to occupy the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of Russian Railways. According to journalists, the designation could prevent the fact that the former head of the SVR 2014 is in the sanctions list of the EU.
