The battle for the title of “interim” champion by the world Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion between Russian Alexander Povetkin and the canadian bermana Stiverne will take place despite a positive doping test last.
In the sample of 38-year-old canadian, taken on 4 November this year, was found a prohibited substance methylhexaneamine (DMAA). Boxer said that it got into his system accidentally – with a dietary Supplement.
WBC decided not to impose immediate sanctions on Stiverne that the violation was the first in his career. The athlete was ordered to pay a fine of 75 thousand dollars and to complete 40 hours of community service on the topic of anti-doping among young people.
“Confirm that the sample Stiverne gave a positive result. We gave him a warning, but the fight itself will take place unless repeated violations. WBC is monitoring the situation and is strongly opposed to doping,” said TASS, the head of the organization, Mauricio Sulaiman.
The fight with Stiverne Povetkin will take place on 17 December in Ekaterinburg.
