In Germany, the authorities first registered the same-sex marriage. Certificate on conclusion of marriage in the town hall of Berlin schöneberg on Sunday, October 1, received a 60-year-old Bodo Mende and 59-year-old Carl Krayl, according to Tagesspiegel.

The couple had lived together for 38 years. 19 Oct 2002 Mende and Crail also the first in Berlin legalized civil partnership. At a ceremony in the town hall on the eve was attended by about a hundred friends and relatives of the spouses and a few dozen journalists.
