Permanent member of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Boris Gryzlov is appointed by the Plenipotentiary representative of the Russian Federation in the Contact group on settling the situation in Ukraine. Source of”Interfax” reported that Gryzlov will head a team of Russian experts in the Contact group. Previously, the group agreed on the schedule for January 2016.

“To entrust the permanent member of the Security Council of the Russian Federation B. V. Gryzlov responsibilities of the Plenipotentiary representative of the Russian Federation in the Contact group on settling the situation in Ukraine,” TASS quoted Putin’s disposal.

Gryzlov in comments to Russian agencies called the conflict in Ukraine a “civil war” and stated: “the President tasked me to do all that is necessary for negotiations in protracted internal conflict… At the same time we will proceed from the need for the full and faithful observance of the Minsk agreements”.

In the Russian delegation in the Contact group also includes a special Russian representative in the Contact group, the special envoy of the foreign Ministry Azamat kulmuhametov and representatives in working groups. In the subgroup of security – Jaroslav Moskalik, in the sub-group on humanitarian situations Vladimir Stepanov, the subgroup on the economy – Sergey Nazarov, in the political sub – Maxim Polyakov.

Press Secretary of President Putin Dmitry Peskov has informed “Interfax” that the kulmuhametov “will continue in a Contact group in collaboration with Gryzlov”.

The self-proclaimed representative LNR Vladislav Danego said to”Interfax”that looks forward to engaging constructively with the new Plenipotentiary representative of Russia: “the Main thing that was the result.”

The representative of the DND in the Contact group Denis Pushilin said to RIA “Novosti”: “It can be regarded as strengthening the position of the Russian Federation. It is also the personal attention paid by the President of Russia to this issue. We now understand that adds a heavyweight who has experience of communication with this country (Ukraine)”.

The contact group coordinates position in the peace process, regulated by the Minsk agreements. At the previous meeting on 22 December, the participants agreed on the schedule for January 2016. “Following the meeting of the Contact group will be held on 13, 20 and 27 January, reported OSCE.

Gryzlov from 2003 to 2011, he was the speaker of the state Duma of the Russian Federation, then worked in the security Council. In 2014 was included in the sanctions lists of the EU, Canada, Australia and Switzerland, made up and filled up after the annexation of Crimea to Russia.
