In Britain recently released a new plastic banknote with denomination of five pounds was in the center of the scandal. It turned out that in its composition contains animal fats.

The news shocked thousands of British vegans and vegetarians who created an online petition demanding that the Bank of England to discontinue use of the products of animal origin in the production of the national currency.

The bill in question, was released in September. On its obverse is depicted Queen Elizabeth II and former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

November 28 one of the wearer left a message on the website of the Bank of England Twitter, which asked about the composition of the new notes. In particular, she was interested in, was the manufacture of animal fats.

The answer was Yes. “A trace of fat is present in the polymer granules used for the production of five-pound notes,” – said the Bank.
