The first unit of the Kudankulam NPP connected to the network. About it RIA “Novosti” said a source in the nuclear industry of India.
According to the interlocutor of Agency, the first nuclear power plant unit was connected Sunday, February 22, at 8:15 local time (05:45 Moscow time). Currently, the station operates at a power of 300 MW. “There is a gradual rise to power”, – said the source.
The construction of NPP “Kudankulam” company “Atomstroyexport” is conducted in accordance with the signed in 1988, the Soviet-Indian intergovernmental agreement. The initial project foresees equipment of the facility two power units capacity of 1 thousand megawatts each.
In the beginning of last year, the parties initialed the agreement on construction of four power generators at the site of Kudankulam and cooperation in the implementation in India of other projects in the field of civil nuclear energy.
Currently, the site employs more than 100 Russian engineers and other specialists.
