In Kyrgyzstan, banned religious marriages with minors – Nike, reports Aki press premises with reference to the office of President Almazbek Atambayev. Edition Zanoza notes that such marriages – the main reason that girls drop out of school. Most never resume study.

Atambayev signed amendments to the Family code and the criminal code. The law introduces criminal responsibility of persons, including priests and parents for participation in the religious consecration of the marriage. Proposed by Deputy Aida salyanova the law was passed by Parliament in early October this year with a moderate overweight: voted 60 against 48.

The ceremony with participation of minors, her parents or guardians, and also priest can be sentenced to imprisonment for a period of 3 to 5 years. The law will enter into force after 30 days from the date of publication.

Marriage underage is one of the main reasons the dropout rate of girls from schools, most of which never resume study. This often dooms young women to exist in poverty because they have limited opportunities to earn a living independently. In addition, it threatens the life and health of the minor mother, increases her risk of becoming a victim of violence and abuse.
