Russia will prepare a response to the visits by American ships in the Black sea, reported RIA “news” the Director of the European cooperation Department of Russian foreign Ministry Andrey Kelin.
“From time to time of American ships come into the Black sea. Of course, this does not arouse our approval and will lead, undoubtedly, to the measures of response planning”, – the diplomat said, without specifying what it can be action.
6 June in the Black sea through the Bosphorus became an American guided missile destroyer USS Porter DDG 78. A day earlier the 6th operational fleet of the U.S. Navy reported that Porter goes into the Black sea for routine operations as part of a planned campaign with the aim of “strengthening peace and stability”, he will visit the ports of the black sea NATO allies and conduct bilateral exercises with ships of the countries-partners.
The campaign of this American destroyers equipped with missile defense system Aegis and Tomahawk cruise missiles, is part of “operation Atlantic determination”, designed to show support for US allies on NATO in the region. These include Turkey, with which Russia has since last year soured relations. In addition, the black sea ally of the United States is not a member of the Alliance Ukraine.
In accordance with the Montreux Convention of 1936, warships of States not having access to the Black sea cannot remain in its waters for more than 21 days.
Warships of NATO countries regularly come into the waters of the Black sea. In the summer of 2015, the Alliance conducted large-scale exercises with the participation of 23 surface ships, and in October the Porter destroyer in the Black sea took part in joint exercises with the naval forces of Georgia. One of the officers serving on USS Porter, then stressed that “the presence of military ships in the Black sea not only strengthens relations with allies, and promotes stability in the region”.
The Ministry of defence of the Russian Federation have repeatedly noted that over the past year and a half the intensity of the combat training of NATO troops at the borders of the Russian Federation has increased significantly, and in a conditional enemy, which the allies are fighting in the exercise, easily guessed Russia.
