In St. Petersburg continues intense discussion of the decision of the toponymic Commission to recommend to city Governor Georgy Poltavchenko called the bridge across the Duderhof canal in honor of the first President of Chechnya Akhmat Kadyrov. The day after this controversial move on the Internet began collecting signatures against the renaming, and a member of the city legislative Assembly Maxim Reznik submitted for consideration colleagues document of no confidence against the Vice-Governor and the head of the Commission Vladimir Kirillov, reports TASS.
“Vice-Governor Vladimir Kirillov headed by toponymy Commission, responsible for the sphere of culture. He is actively “selling” the decision with all the negatives that it entails. From our point of view, this requires a political assessment,” said Reznik, who heads the legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg Commission on education, culture and science.
According to him, the relevant document has already been sent to the legal Department of the legislative Assembly for opinion. Most likely, it will be reviewed by the city Parliament next week, June 8th.
“Man has a right to their point of view. We do not for this position I want to Express Kirillov distrust, but for the fact that it was done with the pressure on members of the Toponymic Commission. In rough form, clearly and deliberately ignored public opinion”, – explained the Deputy.
We recall the idea of naming an unnamed bridge in St. Petersburg in honor of Akhmat Kadyrov made earlier by several Russian public organizations. A week ago the initiative was considered by the toponymic Commission of St. Petersburg. However the first time experts the idea was not approved. A positive decision was taken only at the second ballot.
The head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov called the Commission’s decision “correct and just”. Meanwhile, against assigning the bridge named after the first President of Chechnya by a group of deputies of Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg and some cultural.
May 28 in St. Petersburg hosted a rally against the appropriation of the bridge name of the Chechen President. Earlier the St. Petersburg opposed the appearance on the map of the city named after Kadyrov. A petition signed by more than 8.5 thousand people.
Akhmad Kadyrov, the Chechen religious leader and statesman, first President of Chechnya. He held the position of mufti of the unrecognized Republic of Ichkeria, defected to the Federal forces during the second Chechen war. He studied Islamic law in Uzbekistan and Jordan. Died during a terrorist attack, organized by Shamil Basayev, in 2004. Awarded the title of Hero of Russia posthumously.
