In Saint-Petersburg on the Embankment of Griboyedov canal, several priests of the religious Association “Apostolic Orthodox Church” held a series of pickets, demanding the abolition of the 148 articles of the criminal code (“Violation of the right to freedom of conscience and religion”), the contents of which after amendment in 2013, acquired the conventional wording “on insulting the feelings of believers.”

As reported by “Fontanka”, three people representing the Church, which is a registered religious Association and refers to non-canonical Orthodox Russian liturgical tradition, stood at the entrance to the metro station “Nevsky prospect” along the river embankment for a distance of 50 meters from each other.

Two were in costumes, one in civilian clothes. The picketers were holding posters with demands to annul article, noting that it is not criminal code, and that the Lord protects the feelings of believers, and is impossible to offend the feelings of the believer, because “God is not mocked”.

In place of the pickets arrived, law enforcement officials, who rewrote the data picketing, however, did not prevent the action. About 13 hours the protesters dispersed.

Recall, article 148 of the criminal code consists of four parts, which together distinguish two main ways of violations of the rights of people in the area of freedom of conscience and religion: public actions, expressing a lack of respect to the audience and insulting their religious feelings (crime in the sacred religion), and actions that prevent the performance of religious rites and ordinances associated with violence or threat of violence.

As stated by the organizers of the picket, the event was dedicated to the scandal around Moscow Park “TORRANCE” two opponents of the building of the temple in the Park I suspect it is in the insult of religious feelings against them prosecuted. The Muscovites fight with the intention to build a temple in the Park “TORRANCE” lasts for a few years – decision on the construction of the temple complex was signed by mayor of Moscow Sergei Sobyanin in the spring of 2013.

According to the Bishop APTS Gregory mihnova-Voitenko, the practice of building Orthodox churches on the place of parks and gardens against the will of local residents is detrimental to the Orthodox faith, and the enforcement of article 148 of the criminal code “goes beyond any common sense and directly contradicts the true Christian meanings.”

“Christianity can not defend themselves by force. In this case the criminal law is a kind of state power that applies to an unlimited number of people – said “the” the Bishop Mikhnov-Voitenko, adding that “under the guise of protecting some of the hurt feelings is the mockery of the people, and it is the most rabid anti-Christianity propaganda”.

Note that according to some priests, article 148 of the criminal code is in fact anti-Orthodox, degrading the omnipotence of the Lord. After all, to insult a believer is impossible. For him, the knower of the omnipotence of God, natural not to offend, but to intercede for non-believers, who “know not what they do”. No bawdy songs, no pokemon should not and can not offend the believer, especially the priest, for which such actions should be the impetus to action is to sow the word of God.

The new edition of the 148-th article of the Criminal code of the Russian Federation, which entered into force in 2013, caused a fierce debate in society.

For the public expression of contempt for the faithful, it provides for imprisonment for one year. As well as forced labor for the same term or a fine of up to 300,000 rubles.

If an act of sacrilege occurred in the temple, the punishment is three years in prison or a fine of 500 000 rubles.

Public desecration of religious literature or objects, is punished with a fine of up to 200 thousand rubles.

But some representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church is probably not being confident in the power of the word of God, believe that such a disproportionately severe punishment not enough, and three years in prison – “even as soft”, must be greater than (the original law on insulting the feelings of believers assumed a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment).
