The organizer of the campaign Occupy Central in Hong Kong Joshua Wong was detained by Thai authorities upon arrival in the country, said the Hong Kong radio station RTHK.

Campaign Occupy Central began in late September 2014, when protesters blocked the business center of Hong Kong. They tried to break into the government complex, dozens of people were arrested, several received minor injuries. Authorities and activists have accused each other of violating the order and excessive use of force.

The cause of the protests were demands direct election of the head of Hong Kong instead of two. The Occupy Central campaign lasted 79 days.

As reported by the party Demosisto is a member of Wong, he arrived at Suvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok around midnight on Tuesday, after which for several hours had not been in contact. Wong had to deliver a lecture at Chulalongkorn University. Later, as reported by RIA “Novosti”, one of the students of the University informed the parties that Wong was arrested. The student, in his words, denied the opportunity to see the detained activist.

“Demosisto strongly condemns the restrictions on freedom and the right to enter Wong to the country by Thai authorities, demands the immediate release”, – quotes the newspaper the South China Morning Post the statement of the party activist.

According to radio station RTHK another member of the party Nathan Lau, the party has received from the authorities of Thailand warning of what Wong can be denied entry into the country.

In mid-August, the Hong Kong court acknowledged Joshua Wong guilty of participation in illegal mass events in the city and sentenced him to 80 hours of community service. The court held that Wang guilty of participation in illegal mass protests, whose participants tried to break into the government complex. Earlier it was reportedthat Wong could face a prison sentence of up to five years.
