International Federation of sport fishing (CIPS) has applied for the inclusion of this sport into the program of Olympic games 2020 to be held in Tokyo, reports the BBC.

The applicants noted that fishing is an ancient and fair competition, which coincides with the Olympic ideals. It is committed to ensuring that the Olympic movement is more universal, since fishing is popular around the world for a long time. Separately emphasized that all fish caught during the competition, will return to the waters unharmed.

Meanwhile, critics of the sport think that the outcome of the competition depends too much on luck, and the process is very boring and incomprehensible to a wider audience.

Informal competitions on fishing have already passed at the Olympic games in Paris in 1900. In they took part the representatives of the six countries, but the winner has not been preserved.

Recall that in 2020 in Tokyo, in addition to the traditional Olympic contests, will be presented skateboarding, surfing, rock climbing, karate and baseball.
