Court of Tver region detained a resident of Moscow, who is suspected in the attack on the rector of the Church in the Tver region. The attacker wounded the priest with a pair of scissors, reports RIA “Novosti” with reference to regional Prosecutor’s office.
The crime was committed on 13 September in the town of Red Hill. And from hands of the malefactor suffered the rector of the Church of Velikomuchenitsy Paraskeva, located in the village of Martynovo Krasnokholmsky district.
“It is established that the inhabitant of Moscow region came to the temple armed with scissors and in the presence of the congregation on the grounds of religious hatred attacked the Abbot. During the attack the victim suffered minor injuries in the head”, – stated in the message of Prosecutor’s office.
According to the Ministry, “illegal actions of the attacker prevented by eyewitnesses of incident”. However, he continued to make threats against the Abbot. The man was detained, and investigators petitioned for election to it measures of restraint in form of detention.
According to law enforcement officials, the suspect remaining at large, “may attempt to escape from prosecution and to continue criminal activity”.
In the end, Krasnokholmsky district court granted the petition of the investigator about the arrest, taking into account the opinion of the Prosecutor.
A criminal case was opened under paragraph “a”, “b” of part 1 of article 213 of the criminal code of Russian Federation (“the Hooliganism made on motives of religious hatred with the use of objects used as weapons”). The defendant faces a sentence of deprivation of liberty for a term up to five years.
