In the US, hackers have joined forces with American governors and scientists to work aimed at preventing cyber attacks on electronic voter registration system, the purpose of which is to influence the outcome of future elections. It is reported Reuters citing a source familiar with the new project.

Among the members of the anti-hacker coalition organizers held in the summer in Las Vegas (Nevada) conference Defcon, which gathers experts in computer security, Federal government employees and hackers. In addition, the new project involving members of the National governors Association and the American Center for Internet security. According to another source, in the development of a program counter also take part specialists of the Washington of the Atlantic Council and several American universities.

Concern about hacking attempts of electoral systems by hackers, allegedly linked to Russia have increased in the US since the end of last year. As stated in Washington, the American intelligence services learned that the Russian government under the personal direction of Vladimir Putin ordered the hacking attack on the servers of the Democratic party to help Republican Donald Trump to win the November elections his rival Hillary Clinton.

At the end of September in the Ministry of internal security of the United States saidthat during last year’s presidential elections hacker attacks suffered electoral infrastructure in 21 States. The Ministry said with confidence that the attacks were hackers working for the Moscow.

In particular, it was announced that hackers tried to hack the electoral infrastructure in Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin. The Ministry has established that Russian hackers searched for vulnerabilities in the security system, but to enter in the registration database of voters they failed.

In June 2017 at the hearings in the intelligence Committee of the house of representatives of the U.S. Congress employee of the Department of homeland security Janet Manfre announced that his Ministry has evidence of Russia’s attempts to interfere in the work of electoral systems in 21 States. In turn, the former Minister of homeland security Jeh Johnson said that only 36 States have accepted help from the Federal government to prevent Russian intervention, the other States gave up control.

In the Kremlin all the accusations against Moscow of interference in the American elections categorically dismiss. After meeting in July with Putin at the G20 summit in Hamburg trump said that directly asked the Russian leader did Moscow interference in the elections, and he replied in the negative.

However, in the United States believe that a hacker attack was organized by Moscow. The government has already taken some measures to prevent such situations in the future. So, in late September, the U.S. Senate approved a ruleprohibiting U.S. Federal military and civilian agencies to use the software of the Russian company “Kaspersky Lab”.

As pointed out by the co-author of amendments to the bill on the Pentagon’s budget for the 2018 fiscal year, Senator Jeanne Shaheen, the adoption of this norm would eliminate the “real vulnerability” in U.S. national security. Earlier, the Ministry of homeland security issued a Directive ordering all government agencies and associated companies in the three months to discontinue use of the software “Kaspersky Lab”. In Washington said that the software company can be used to harm the national security of the United States.

As noted by Reuters, the organizers of the recent conference Defcon as one of the possible countermeasures to such attacks just encouraged the authorities to reduce the number used for voting software non-us production.
