Former Director of St Innokenty Orthodox school hieromonk Meletios
(Andrey Tkachenko) by the court in custody. He was accused of sexual abuse of children.

“The Supreme court of Yakutia has considered the appeal of counsel
Andrey Tkachenko on the decision of the city court about the arrest and dismissed it.
The accused is taken into custody and placed in a detention facility in Yakutsk
August 9, inclusive,” – said Tuesday the “Interfax” the press-service of the Yakut city court.

According to him, the meeting was held behind closed doors. He
Tkachenko introduced himself as a staff cleric of the Yakutsk diocese hieromonk
Meletios.

In early March of 2017, he was released from the leadership of St Innokenty Orthodox school, which he directed during seven years. According to “NVK Sakha”, 7 March 2017, the Archbishop Yakut and Lensky Roman held a meeting on leadership of St Innokenty Orthodox school in Yakutsk. “The Bishop thanked them for their labors, the former headmaster of hieromonk Meletius, who had to go to a new obedience to serve the flock of the Russian Orthodox Church abroad”, – says the publication.

Three weeks after the dismissal concerning Meletius opened a criminal case under paragraph “b” of part 4 of article 132 of the criminal code of Russian Federation (“Violent actions of sexual nature committed against a person under 14 years of age”). June 9, the clergyman charged in two episodes. He faces a sentence of 20 years imprisonment.

In turn, the press service of the Yakut diocesan administration on
his official website posted a message, which says that,
during the investigation monk Meletios removed from
service.

The ROC asked the press to “refrain from premature statements” regarding the guilt or innocence of Meletius, on the grounds that the leadership of the Church “has not received any complaints from possible victims.”

“The priest against whom the act of suspected crime against the person in any way is prohibited in the service for the period of the trial and, if convicted, is deprived of dignity”, – said in the diocesan administration.

It was assured that the clergy “mourns and prays for a speedy resolution” of the scandal.

“We ask in case of any violation of pastoral ethics by the priests to appeal to the Diocesan office. Any your complaint will be investigated carefully and the guilty will suffer severe punishment,” – concluded in the spiritual Department.
