Specialists of the Institute of applied astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences
(IAA) determined that tectonic movement of the Crimea sent in
the direction of Russia. This was announced on Tuesday, October 4, reporters
the Director of the Institute, corresponding member of RAS Alexander Ipatov on
conference in
The space research Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences, where he made a report
“Global radio telescope the size of the diameter of the Earth and the complex
“Kvazar-KVO”.

At the astronomical Institute, which deals, in particular,
space geodesy, the study of plate tectonics (global offset
the earth’s crust), according to Ipatova, scientists have pursued this issue in 2014
year.

“At the time of the annexation of Crimea to Russia, we tried to answer
question: whither Crimea? And we’ve determined that he’s going to
Russia”, – quotes Ipatova “Interfax”. “Actually
this is no joke, although very similar. Crimea moves approximately
North-East”, – said the scientist.

According to TASS, according to the present Ipatov presentation equipment
established in the astronomical Observatory near the village of Simeiz,
recorded the movement of the Peninsula in a North-easterly direction from
a rate of 2.9 mm per year.

Report of Ipatova has been dedicated to established in the Institute a permanent radiointerferometric network
“Kvazar-KVO”, which is formed by three radio astronomy
observatories located in the Leningrad region (Observatory
“Light”), Karachay-Cherkess Republic (the Observatory
“Zelenchukskaya”) and the Republic of Buryatia (the Observatory “Badary”),
combined with the center of the correlation processing of the RAS in St. Petersburg.

Observatory the joint high speed fiber optic lines
connection with the control center, data collection and processing in the global
radio telescope with an effective mirror diameter of more than 4,000 km.
“Kvazar-KVO” participates in the largest international astrometrics,
geophysical and astrophysical studies.

Alexander Ipatov is engaged in research in astrometry,
ephemeris astronomy, radio astronomy and radiointerferometry with
extra long bases and in the field of fundamental
the coordinate-time and navigation support, including GLONASS.

Conference in IKI was timed to the Day of space science. 8
October in the city festival of science in IKI RAS from 12:00 to 15:00
will be held an open doors day for schoolchildren.
