The Russian defense Ministry strengthened the troops in the Kaliningrad special district by the division of coastal missile complex “Bastion”, which became part of the missile join the Baltic fleet. On it informs Agency “Interfax” citing a source familiar with the situation.

Last week, the press service of the Baltic fleet reported that the missile join the Navy “training infrastructure and planned upgrading to a new shore and operational-tactical missile complexes”, reminds Agency.

General Director Kaluga instrument-making plant “Typhoon” Andrei Petrakov in turn, earlier it was reported that in September this year, the Baltic fleet was transferred to the coastal missile complex “Ball”.

Mobile coastal missile complex “Bastion” with a unified supersonic antiship homing missile “Onyx” has been developed and manufactured in the NGO engineering in Reutov (Moscow region).

The complex “Bastion” is designed to protect the coast stretching over 600 km and defeat surface ships of various classes and types, operating in the composition of the airborne compounds, convoys, ship and aircraft carrier battle groups and single ships and land-based Radiocontrast targets in conditions of intensive fire and electronic countermeasures. Ammunition one set can include up to 36 missiles.

This is not the first step to strengthen the military group in the Kaliningrad region in recent years. So, in early October, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg saidhe was not surprised by the transfer of Russian missile complexes “Iskander-M” in the Kaliningrad region. According to him, this step fits into the habitual behavior of Russia.

Earlier, the management of a number of European countries criticized Russia over deployment of missile complexes in the Kaliningrad region. In Sweden the re-deployment of “Iskander” called provocation, which aggravates the situation in the Baltic region. Swedish defence Minister Peter Hultqvist stressed that we are talking about the possible carriers of nuclear warheads.

The day before the Minister of foreign Affairs of Poland Witold Waszczykowski said that Russia’s actions are “totally inadequate response to what NATO is doing”. According to him, Poland and the Baltic States do not have aggressive intentions against Russia, and therefore there is no grounds for strengthening of the Kaliningrad garrison.

Waszczykowski also added that even if NATO deploy on the Eastern flank of their forces in the framework of the recent NATO summit in Warsaw, “it will not change its defense doctrine and the relations to Russia”. We are talking about the summit, which was announced on the placement in Eastern Europe four battalions of NATO for protection from Russia.

In a day when media reported about the deployment of Iskander, the defense Minister of Poland, Anthony Macierewicz said that “the Polish armed forces and intelligence system, including in collaboration with allies, are in constant readinessto monitor and guarantee the security of Poland and the partner countries”.

In the defense Ministry on 8 October confirmed the messages about the deployment of “Iskander-M” in Kaliningrad oblast. Official representative of the Ministry Igor Konashenkov stated that the deployment of facilities near Kaliningrad has happened repeatedly and is an element of planned training of the troops. According to him, the Ministry of defense of the secret did not, and the process clarified the parameters of the American military satellites, followed by transportation.

Reports on the relocation of “Iskander” in the Kaliningrad region appeared 8 Oct. Reuters reported on the transfer of missile systems, citing a source in American intelligence and the Estonian media.
