Missile complexes “Iskander” in the Kaliningrad region will be aimed at missile defense facilities in Europe, said in
interview to TV program “Vesti on Saturday” (VGTRK) head of the Committee on
the defense of the state Duma Vladimir Shamanov. Also, the ex-commander of the airborne forces have proposed to place the parachute regiment in Cuba.
Missiles of operational-tactical missile complexes (PTRC) “Iskander” in the
Kaliningrad region “are primarily directed against those objects
which upset the balance, the equilibrium, and which are supplied or to be
be in the foreseeable future under the so-called PRO”, said Shamanov. (Quoted by “Interfax”.)
Shamans also have painted the merits of the “Iskander”: “This increased charge, it is amazing accuracy. As the gunners hit count. That is essentially the deviation from
the aiming point is not more than one meter”.
The Deputy also stated that placing missile systems in the Western region of Russia does not violate the agreements of Mikhail Gorbachev and Ronald Reagan. “This is a very highly effective weapons, which is fully consistent with the parameters of arrangement of missiles short and medium range… All attempts to impose a claim, they at all do not represent from itself”, – quotes the head of the Duma Committee TASS.
In accordance with an open-ended Contract on the elimination of intermediate-range and shorter-range nuclear forces (INF), signed on 8 December 1987 in Washington of the General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee Mikhail Gorbachev and U.S. President Ronald Reagan, the parties committed themselves not to produce, not to test and not to deploy ballistic and cruise missiles, ground-based range from 500 to 5500 km According to official data, the range of modification of the “Iskander-M” up to 500 km.
Paratroopers in Cuba
Colonel-General Vladimir Shamanov also said that Cuba might host Russian airborne regiment. To elect a Deputy Shamans held the position of commander of the Russian airborne troops.
“At least a minimal presence, as the regiment Yazov at the time. Why not? I would have posted there airborne regiment” – said the head of the Duma Committee, answering the question of in what form it sees the return of Russian military presence in Cuba.
Shaman believes that it would be wise to work to restore the Russian military bases in those countries where they existed in Soviet times. “I want to say that these bases were built with the direct involvement of the Soviet Union, and carried out in this direction work is probably reasonable. At least from the point of view of the professional, they, of course, we would have needed help in the dialogue”, – added the MP.
