Travel industry experts are confident that air service to Egypt will not resume until spring of 2017, the newspaper “Izvestia”.
“The decision on the resumption of air links between Russia and Egypt is possible only after elimination of all observations in the aviation and transportation security. It is worth noting that the Egyptian side has made significant progress in addressing these issues and cooperation between the two countries is quite constructive”, – said the press service of the Ministry of transport of the Russian Federation.
The Ministry said that once the Egyptian side will inform about the readiness, the Russian experts will be ready to make its next visit to assess progress. This can happen in the near future.
Now already four Russian companies are ready to resume flights to Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheikh. During the month of October for permission for air transport Rosaviation asked “Yamal”, “Icarus”, “azure air”, “Northern wind”. Departure aircraft are scheduled from Moscow, St.-Petersburg, Samara, Rostov-on-don, Yekaterinburg and Kazan.
In one of the airlines that have applied to Egypt, the newspaper reported that to redraw the schedule and arrange the flights within three days since the opening of charters. But everything will depend on requests from the agencies forming the tourism packages.
In early October, the source of “Interfax” familiar with the situation reported that the tests and check for compliance with the airports of Cairo, Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada, “tall Russian security requirements.” The result was revealed deficiencies which do not allow to speak about the imminent resumption of flights between the countries.
It is also noteworthy that Russian tour operators have already formed offers in winter and is not going to change. Director of the Association “Turpomosch” Oleksandr Osaulenko told the newspaper that operators are preparing the winter and spring suggestions and guide customers on what is. The number of requests from the Russian tourists on vacation in Egypt, according to him, in the last two months has decreased.
The Chairman of Association of airports of Russia Viktor Gorbachev said that the resumption of Charter flights to Egypt is not expected until the beginning of 2017. In his opinion, it is not even safe, and the unwillingness of the airports of Egypt to take the flow of tourists from Russia.
Flights between Russia and Egypt was interrupted by Moscow’s decision in November 2015 after the collapse of the Sinai to the plane of the Russian airline “Kogalymavia” flying from Sharm El Sheikh to Saint Petersburg. Onboard there were 217 passengers and seven crew members, they all died. The FSB subsequently acknowledged the incident a terrorist attack, announcing that the plane crashed because of the explosion of a homemade bomb on Board.
The parties agreed that Russia will resume flights after the adoption of measures to provide additional security in the Egyptian airports. To check RF repeatedly sent to Egypt its experts, including representatives of the Interstate aviation Committee (IAC) and the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.
