The author of a series of books about Harry Potter JK Rowling has expressed outrage at the reaction from a “bunch of racists” on the message that the role of Hermione Granger in the London production of her new play “Harry Potter and the cursed child” is going to play a black actress Noma Dumezweni, reports The Guardian.

Setting promises to be the theatrical event of the year. In just 24 hours it sold a record number of tickets to the show – 175 thousand.

The writer who created potteriana, criticized those who suggested that a diligent student of the school of magic and witchcraft Hogwarts can’t be black. At the same time, the vast majority of people responded positively to the decision of the creators of the setting to give the role of Hermione Nome Dumezweni.

According to JK Rowling, as evidence of “a bunch of racists” gives a phrase from the book that Hermione is “white” (pale) from the shock. For this reason, they decided, girlfriend of Harry Potter must be white.

Rowling said that in a potterian there is no indication that Hermione is white. The writer said that 46-year-old Dumezweni “best actress” for this role and “blessed” her to participate in the project.

Director John Tiffany, who staged a play, admitted that he was surprised at the views expressed on the Internet, but, according to him, then he just stopped to read the comments.

The play, written by JK Rowling together with Jack Thorne, will be presented to the audience at the Palace Theatre in London’s West end in late July.

The play takes place 19 years later after the events described in the seventh book of Harry Potter. Harry Potter works in the Ministry of magic, he is married and has three school-age children. In the center of the story – the younger son of Harry, Albus, who is forced to deal with the burden of family heritage, which he never liked.
