U.S. Secretary of state John Kerry on Tuesday, October 4, criticized Russia for its “deeply irresponsible and imprudent” decision to support Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Speaking in the German Marshall Fund in Brussels, Kerry said that it is necessary to continue efforts for a peaceful settlement in Syria, despite the American Declaration of the rupture of cooperation with Moscow, reports Reuters. On termination of the joint work of the two countries for peace in Syria Washington announced the day before.
John Kerry accused Moscow and Damascus that they have abandoned diplomacy and seek a military solution to the conflict in Syria, reports TASS. At the same time, the Secretary of state said that Washington will not abandon the Syrian people and will continue to strive for peaceful settlement of the conflict. He assured that Washington remains committed to the sustainable cessation of hostilities in Syria. According to Kerry, the U.S. effort is directed “to Syria was peaceful, stable, United and secular state”.
In his speech, John Kerry said that the US is not broke off contacts with the Russian military in the fight against militants of the terrorist group “Islamic state” (ISIS, ISIL, DAISH, banned in Russia).
Yesterday the state Department announced the termination of cooperation with Russia on the Syrian issue, accusing Moscow of violating its obligations in the framework of the Russian-American agreement on the ceasefire in Syria.
