Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said relations between Russia and the United States have reached “extremely low point”, and blame, in his opinion, us President Barack Obama and his administration, which are fairly “tried” after events in Ukraine.
“Frankly, when we started the contacts with the current administration, with President-elect Obama, I could not imagine that they will reach such an unprecedented low point. Relationship fell, that is, the floor became quite low. And it’s not our fault and not our choice”, Medvedev said in an interview with Israeli television ahead of his visit to this country (quoted by “Interfax”).
Commenting on the upcoming U.S. elections, Medvedev noted that Russia, by and large, don’t care who is President. “Any US President will first of all focus on us interests, otherwise it would be impossible to even imagine. Is this mainstream, which is the American administration. No matter whether the administration is headed by the US Republicans or the Democrats, they still hold quite similar positions on a core set of foreign policy priorities”, – said the Prime Minister.
At the same time, he said that Russia will be guided by its national interests, but Russia “is in constant dialogue, no matter how difficult it may be, with the whole administration of the United States.”
The charges of the U.S. against Russia in connection with the bombing in Syria, Medvedev said that attempts to shift problems from a sick head on healthy.
“The United States of America, which usually are two or three military campaigns, never see the problem. We kept asking our American partners about the use of their Armed forces, when the strikes on hospitals, funeral processions, schools. For some reason it is not very much care,” – said Medvedev.
The problem of the siege of Aleppo, in his opinion, should be decided by the Syrian leadership, and Russia only assists. “This is their territory, we’re just helping them”, – said the head of the Cabinet. “The only way to resolve the overall situation lies at the negotiating table. You should try to minimize the problems that exist. We make all necessary efforts”, he added.
Medvedev promised that Russia and Israel will not fight over Syria
According to the Russian Prime Minister, nobody is going to take actions that can lead to tension or conflict between Russia and Israel because of the situation in Syria.
“The rule of law in Syria meets all the same the Syrian leadership and the Syrian armed forces and not the Russian military space forces. I assume that the relationship between Syria and Israel is a completely different story, which is not subject to the jurisdiction of our country,” – said Medvedev.
