Metropolitan Hilarion will not interfere with the release of “Matilda”, “the more noise, the more people will look”
Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev), head of the Department for external Church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, at the invitation of the Director Alexey Uchitel looked it mounted on a scandal movie “Matilda”, said that the picture he didn’t like, but assured that is not going to prevent its exit.
Earlier, the former Prosecutor of Crimea, the Deputy of the state Duma Natalia Poklonskaya got into a furious fight for the ban of the rental tapes due to the offensive, in her opinion, the relationship of the film to the memory of Emperor Nicholas II.
“I’m not going to take any measures to prevent this picture to go to the big screen. Restrictive measures are counterproductive. The more noise, the more people will see it. I would not want to participate in an advertising campaign around this film, but at the same time, I can not answer the questions,” said Metropolitan Hilarion in his interview to the newspaper “Komsomolskaya Pravda”.
The priest explained that he went to see the movie just because he was invited by the Director. “I long, I didn’t want to watch it, I foresaw that I wouldn’t like it. But everyone has already started talking, and protests have begun, and the main argument of opponents was: you’re not watching, how can you criticize?” – said the Metropolitan. “So I looked. Said Alexei Yefimovich what you think”, he said.
“Without touching the artistic merits or demerits of the film, the main thing I would emphasize is that with which we celebrate the centenary of the revolution in 2017 and the centenary of the tragic death of the Royal family in 2018,” – said Metropolitan Hilarion. He complained that Russia did “here is the offering of his slain Tsar-passion-bearer”. “It is very sad and unfortunate,” concluded one of the highest hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church.
We will remind, Natalia Poklonskaya is fighting for a ban on the release of the film “Matilda” for the past several months. In particular, the Deputy several times asked the Prosecutor to check not-yet-released film, indicating that it can contain the offense described in article 148 of the criminal code (“Insult of feelings of believers”).
The ex-the Prosecutor of the Crimea also sent to the Prosecutor General conclusion of experts who recognized that the picture presented in the image of Nicholas II “can not offend the feelings of a significant part of Orthodox Christians”, and then recommended to prohibit public display of the painting.
The Teacher considers inadmissible the attempts Poklonskaya affect the creative process and the rolling destiny of a film. He appealed to the ethics Commission of the state Duma with a request to check the actions of the Deputy.
The premiere of the film dedicated to the relationship of the future Emperor Nicholas II and the ballerina Matilda Kschessinska, scheduled for October 6, 2017. The screening will take place at the Mariinsky theatre. The role of the king played by German actor Lars Eidinger, Kschessinska was played by Polish actress Mikhalina Olshansky. The film also starred Ingeborga Dapkunaite, Yevgeny Mironov, Sergei Garmash, Danila Kozlovsky, Grigoriy Dobrygin.
