The President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has admitted that he was pleased to hear that the initiative of the local deputies to rename Astana after him. Earlier, the Parliament adopted a Declaration to mark the 25th anniversary of the independence of the former Soviet Republic, which, among other things, proposed to be renamed the capital in honor of the first and permanent President of the country Nursultan Nazarbayev.

“I have said many times on this subject said. It is believed, perhaps, that I give the command to write all Nur, Nurly. And yesterday, the Parliament suggested that, perhaps even the capital to rename my name on it. I these assumptions never shared and never said”, – stressed the head of state (quoted by Zakon.kz).

The President of Kazakhstan declared that he alone “would not have done” if I close with him for all 25 years there were associates who were doing their job. The head of state also thanked all the members of the local Parliament, in particular, for the Declaration, “in which he noted all the stages of our development” and the role of Nazarbayev.

“Of course, I, as a person, it’s nice. The Parliament is an independent part of government. They have the right to make a decision to speak his mind. Any issue – the renaming of cities, settlements and so forth we will address in a balanced manner, commensurate with what is needed for the state and country,” the President noted.

Yesterday, November 23, during the session of the local Parliament Deputy Kuanish Sultanov said that Nazarbayev belongs the great merit in the creation and development of independent Kazakhstan. “Through thoughtful and effective international initiatives of the head of state the country has achieved high international authority and became a recognized leader in global anti-nuclear movement,” – said the MP.

“You can call the capital Nursultan, Nazarbayev”, – he told reporters on the sidelines of the Parliament. His colleague, bakytgul Kamenova proposed to rename Astana the head of State, and Senator Mikhail Bortnik called for a double name – Astana-Leader.

The former press Secretary of Nazarbayev, now Minister of information and communications of the Republic of Dauren Abayev, commenting on this initiative, representatives of the press, said: “I think that the proposal of deputies will be considered and the head of state, as always, on this issue to make a very informed decision”. On a question of journalists, whether this renaming is in case of its approval by the manifestation of the “cult of personality”, the Minister replied: “No, I don’t think so.”

The name of the present capital of Kazakhstan has already wanted to change in previous years: in 2013, the academician of the National Academy of science Sultan sartaev proposed to rename Astana city President, and four years earlier, the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Kazakhstan Latif of Gandilov proposed to rename Astana into Sultan-ATA. However, from December 1 this year, the national Bank of Kazakhstan put into circulation new banknotes with a portrait of Nazarbayev.
