Nobel laureate, academician, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), and state Duma Deputy Zhores Alferov admitted to the departmental hospital of Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg in connection with pneumonia, reports TASS.
In the St. Petersburg Academic University, the rector of which is 86-year-old Alferov, reported that his condition does not cause concern among physicians, but given the age of the Vice-President of the RAS decided to stay in the hospital.
“Zhores Ivanovich will be treated under the supervision of doctors, in the hospital, as pneumonia are best treated in a dropper, not injections,” – said the unnamed interlocutor of Agency at the University.
Zhores Alferov received the Nobel prize in physics in 2000 for his work in the field of semiconductor heterostructures. His discoveries underlie the operation of modern electronic devices, including mobile phones.
Was one of the most authoritative opponents of the reform of the RAS. In addition to research activities, Alferov since 1995 and is still a Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
