“Novaya Gazeta”: the Embassy of the DPRK asked to limit the display of Russian movie German “In the sun”
The press discusses the problems that have arisen in the organization of screenings in Russia of the film “the sun”, shot by well-known Russian documentary filmmaker Vitaly Mansky. Picture of the life of eight-year-old North Korean schoolgirl Zin Mi in Pyongyang needs to go out in the car on October 27, however on the eve the media reported that eight of the Moscow cinemas refused to show the film.
Meanwhile, “Novaya Gazeta” claims that the Embassy of the DPRK appealed to the Ministry of culture of the Russian Federation and asked to limit in Russia the screening of the film Mansky.
As transfers TV channel “Rain”, a network of “Eldar”, commenting on the refusal, referred to the order of the head of the Moscow Department of culture Alexander Kibovsky. The cinema network “Moschino” explained the rejection of a busy schedule of shows. As reported by RIA “Novosti” press Secretary Kseniya Shatrova, the network will not be able to show the film Mansky because of the dense mesh shows, in particular – animation festival.
“The information disseminated in the media, is not quite correct. The fact that we were negotiating with a distributor, the company, Sam Klebanov, about the movie by Vitaly Mansky, but it was only an oral agreement, a written contract has been concluded. We now have a very dense grid of shows and movies, as a rule, one-hall. Moreover, it’s the holidays, and we held Big cartoon festival, with whom Moschino has collaborated for ten years. For these reasons, we are unable to insert the grid shows the film Mansky,” said Shatrova.
“Novaya Gazeta”, meanwhile, published a copy of the response of the Ministry of culture to the appeal of the DPRK Embassy on the occasion of the screening of Mansky. The answer is in the name of the North Korean Ambassador to Russia Kim Hyung Jun was signed by the Director of the Department of cinematography of the Ministry of culture Vyacheslav TeleNav. According to “Novaya Gazeta”, the appeal of the Embassy of the DPRK dates back to the 14th of October.
The Ministry of culture of the Russian Federation issued a rental license the film by Vitaly Mansky in may 2016. In response the Department said that was the version of the film, which “meets the spirit and letter of the constructive and positive cooperation between Russia and the DPRK”. A version of the film, in which the painting was shown at events in Russia and abroad, “appeared after additional installation of the film Director without the consent of the Ministry”. “This version of the movie rental license is not issued”, – is spoken in the reply of the Department.
The response also noted that the Ministry representatives are ready to meet with representatives of the Embassy of the DPRK to discuss the movie.
In the documentary “the sun” tells the story of eight-year-old schoolgirl Zine from Pyongyang. Mansky worked in the capital of the DPRK in coordination with the North Korean authorities. He had to give the footage to check, but some of the shots, the North Korean authorities saw.
Earlier, the film Mansky was nominated for Asia Pacific Screen Awards. In the past year painting “In the sunshine” won the prize for best direction at the international film festival “Dark nights” in Tallinn. The Ministry of culture of the Russian Federation initially supported the project, and later was asked to remove himself from the credits after the protest of representatives of the DPRK and Pyongyang’s demands to ban the screening of the film in the future.
