Deputy Secretary of state for Europe and Eurasia Victoria Nuland together with the senior Directors of the Council of national security of the United States Celeste Wallander and Charles Kupchina arrived in Moscow where they and their Russian colleagues discussed the situation in Ukraine. This is stated in the press release of the U.S. Embassy, received NEWSru.com.

From the Russian side the talks were attended by Russian presidential aide on foreign policy Yuri Ushakov and the special assistant to the President Vladislav Surkov. During the bilateral meeting the officials discussed the situation in Eastern Ukraine and further steps to implement the Minsk agreements.

“Both sides confirmed that the breeding of forces and means on the first sections of the line of differentiation is an important initial step towards improving the security situation, but more needs to be done,” – said at the American Embassy.

During the negotiations the sides also discussed current work on such aspects of the Minsk agreements, political and humanitarian issues and security issues. The Embassy said that during his stay in Moscow, Nuland and Wallander met with representatives of civil society and religious organizations.
