Assistant Secretary of state Victoria Nuland, arrived in Moscow, met with Russian presidential aide Vladislav Surkov, who oversees the direction of the Ukrainian policy of the Kremlin, and with Deputy foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.

Nuland told reporters that he and Surkov at the meeting on 17 may “have talked in great detail about all aspects of the Minsk agreements, how we can improve the security situation, access of the SMM (Special monitoring mission of OSCE in the East of Ukraine. – Approx. NEWSru.com), to advance in the political Affairs of the Minsk agreements, including the preparations for the elections in the Donbass”, reports “Interfax”.

May 18, Nuland visited the Russian foreign Ministry, where he held talks with Ryabkov. According to her, the meeting discussed the bilateral relations between Russia and the United States. “I come home after a constructive round of negotiations. It is important to continue to talk and try to solve all these issues together,” summed up the American diplomat.

Nuland contacts with Russian representatives occur in anticipation of the next meeting of the contact group on Ukraine to meet in Minsk on may 18. According to the source “Interfax”, the negotiators focus on the issues of political settlement and exchange of prisoners in the Donbass.

As previously reported by the state Department, Nuland may 17, arrived from Vienna to Moscow to discuss with senior Russian government officials the situation in the East of Ukraine and further steps on implementing the Minsk agreements, to support the efforts of the countries “Norman Quartet” and the trilateral contact group.
