President Barack Obama discussed with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan coordination in Iraq against the terrorist group “Islamic state” (IG, is prohibited in Russia). This was in the night of Thursday the White house said the United States.

“The President welcomed the ongoing dialogue between Turkey and Iraq, in order to determine the appropriate level and form of participation of Turkey in the coalition effort against ISIS in Iraq. Both leaders affirmed strong support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq”, – quotes the statement of the US administration , RIA “Novosti”.

Obama also thanked Turkey for supporting the Syrian opposition against ISIS in North-West Syria and stressed the need for cooperation between the US and Turkey.

The US had previously expressed concern about the possible participation of Turkey in operations against the IG in Iraq and said that Turkey should act with the permission of the government of Iraq.

Iraq is currently undergoing a major operation to oust the terrorists of ISIS controlled their of the largest city – Mosul. US coalition, Iraqi troops, Kurds and the Turkish military involved in the operation to liberate the city from extremists. Mosul, the second largest city of Iraq with a population of 1.3 million people, more than two years under the control of the IG.
