The number of fraudulent loan applications in January-September 2016 rose one and a half times. Most of all, the number of fraudsters trying all by hook or by crook to obtain credit, were expected in the largest cities of Russia, but the largest increase of suspicious cases were observed in small towns across the country, the newspaper “Izvestia” with reference to the study of the joint credit Bureau (OKB).

Banks for the specified period has identified more than 372 thousand loan applications suspected of fraud, according to the Bureau. It is 53% more compared to the same period last year, despite the fact that the total number of attempts to obtain loans grew by only a third (about 30%).
Thus, according to the Central Bank, overall consumer lending after its decline in 2015 and the beginning of the year in January-September 2016 has grown by only 0.4%. The reversal is seen only in the third quarter.

Vice President, Director of underwriting and control of credit risk, VTB24 Olga Balayeva told “Izvestia” that the most popular among fraudsters are cash loans, credit cards, and auto loans.

The most common method of obtaining loans continues to be the so-called social fraud, that is, in fact, trying to look more successful in social terms, added to the OKB.
In the first nine months of 2016 the number of loan applications containing false information about employment and income, grew by 56% compared to the same period last year. The proportion of such filings in the total number of fraudulent attempts to obtain money increased to 27% against 24% a year earlier. However, only in the 3rd quarter of this year, the index jumped four percentage points to 29%.

In the Bureau noted that unscrupulous borrowers in 2016 began to “draw” a more respectable salary. If informed potential customers of the banks pointed out the average earnings in the amount of 15-30 thousand rubles (in 38.7% of cases deemed cheating), this year “salary” suspicious borrowers increased more than three times – up to 50-100 thousand rubles.
Such data was revealed in 32.1% of incorrect loan applications (a year ago the figure was about half 17.7 per cent).

According to experts of EDB, to the deception of credit organizations of the Russians are pushing the declining revenues and the tightening of conditions for obtaining loans.
