In Germany conducted a survey about the likelihood of a military conflict with Russia. It turned out that a third of the population of Germany does not exclude the possibility of war with Russia. Most Germans can’t call the current good relations with Moscow. And yet the majority of respondents supported dialogue with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.

All these data were obtained during a survey conducted by the Institute for the study of public opinion Forsa by order of the publication of the Stern, reports DW. The results of the study were published on Wednesday, October 26. Sociologists have found that a third of Germans think it is possible military conflict with Russia. At the same time, the remaining 64% of respondents said that they do not fear a war with Russia.

The publication notes that after the annexation of Crimea to Russia according to the results of the referendum on the Peninsula and the beginning of Russian air raids in Syria, the Germans have developed an extremely negative opinion about relations with Russia. Only 6% believe good communication with Moscow. While 41% call them poor and more than half of respondents believe that they are “good enough”. Even more difficult, the Germans see the relationship between the US and Russia, possess nuclear weapons.

However, 84% support the policy of German Chancellor Angela Merkel aimed at the continued search for opportunities for dialogue with Putin. Among the supporters of “green” and “left” this view is supported by more than 90%. In addition, 87% of the supporters of the party “Alternative for Germany” configured critical of the Merkel, also support contacts of the Chancellor with the President of Russia. Only 14% of respondents believe that negotiations with Putin now does not make sense.

It is worth noting that on the day of publication of the survey in Brussels, a meeting of defense Ministers of the NATO countries. In particular, it discussed the question of placing in Eastern Europe and the Baltic States of the four multinational battalions of the Alliance, reports TASS.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said following the meeting that 17 States of the North Atlantic Treaty organization will send their military in the composition of these groups. “Earlier this year, Canada, Germany, great Britain and the United States announced its willingness to lead one of the multinational battalion on the Eastern flank of the Alliance, said the Secretary General. – Today, many NATO countries have confirmed their participation. Albania, Italy, Poland, Slovenia will join the military of Canada in Latvia. Belgium, Croatia, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Norway to Germany to Lithuania. Denmark and France – UK and in Estonia and finally, Romania and the United Kingdom to the United States in Poland.”

In turn, the Minister of defence of Estonia Hannes Hanso said that a battalion of NATO in Estonia will be placed in the spring of 2017 Tapu. It will be based on 800 British soldiers with heavy weapons – tanks and armored vehicles.

On the eve of the defense Minister of Britain Michael Fallon announced that in the spring of 2017 in Estonia will be placed 800 British soldiers along with heavy equipment. The Royal troops will join the forces of France and Denmark. The structure of the formation will be the drones, the British tank “Challenger-2″ (Challenger 2) and infantry fighting vehicles, said Fallon. According to him, the battalion will have a defensive character, but at the same time, will be fully operational.

The decision to deploy an additional four battalions of NATO in Eastern Europe and the Baltic States (Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) was adopted at the summit of NATO on 8 July 2016. Stoltenberg then explained that the deployment of military will be a response to Russia’s actions in Ukraine and will be exclusively defensive in nature.
