The Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill accepted into the Royal geographical society of great Britain. The ceremony took place Sunday in London

The Russian Church on British soil and travels of Patriarch Kirill.

During the visit, Kirill was consecrated after the restoration of the Dormition Cathedral in London and the bells cast for him in the Urals. This was one of the main events of the first ever visit of the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church of the British Isles, notes TASS. In the Cathedral of the Patriarch celebrated the Liturgy, offering prayers for the UK, reports “Interfax”.

In 1989-2009 years the Patriarch has been serving in the post of head of Department
external Church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate and visited four times in the
UK. During his life he visited about 80 countries, including 27
from the moment of election to the Patriarchal throne in 2009.

The Royal geographical society was founded in 1830.
The society received Royal privileges from Queen Victoria in 1859
year. The organization has supported many well-known researchers and
travelers. It is now one of the world leading centres for geographical research.
