Poroshenko expects that the Ukrainian government will support the decision of Saakashvili’s resignation
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on Tuesday, November 8, expressed the hope that the announced on the eve of the decision of the head of the Odessa regional state administration (RSA) of Mikhail Saakashvili to resign is approved by the government.
“I hope tomorrow the government will support his decision to resign
as head of the regional state administration, if it decided to engage in political
the activity,” after talks with President of Slovenia Borut Pahor told journalists the Ukrainian leader, quoted by “Interfax”. “We are a democratic state, and if he decided to start a political campaign on the opposition…” said Poroshenko.
The President, commenting on the decision of Saakashvili, recalled that several Georgian leaders were invited to Ukraine for reforms. He noted that some of them – for example, the head of the National police Khatia Dekanoidze and the first Deputy Director of the National anticorruption Bureau of Ukraine Gizo Uglava – successfully continue to work in the government. Other, said Poroshenko, apparently referring to Saakashvili, decided to change the scope of activities and to start the political activity in Ukraine, after losing the elections in Georgia.
Mikhail Saakashvili said yesterday that he was leaving his post due to the fact that tired of the constant fraud and corruption, including from the authorities in Kiev. In the presidential administration reported that Poroshenko will sign a decree
resignation of Saakashvili, if the Ukrainian government will make
the corresponding representation.
In turn, the government noted that the Cabinet is ready to negotiate the resignation of the head of Odessa administration, but the decision on his dismissal is the prerogative of the President. As transfers TASS, the Deputy Prime Minister Pavlo Rozenko said on Tuesday that the government of Ukraine at a meeting on November 9 will consider making representations to the resignation of Mikheil Saakashvili from the post of Governor of the Odessa region.
Meanwhile, the media predict who may become a successor to Saakashvili as the head of the Odessa regional state administration. According to the publication “Apostrophe”, the post meant the Governor of Lviv region Oleg sinyutka. According to a source, Poroshenko and sinyutka supposedly already discussed such prospects. Officially in the Lvov regional administration information about the alleged impending appointment of a new Governor neither confirmed nor denied.
UNN a source close to the presidential administration of Ukraine, reported that among those who could be the next head of the Odessa regional administration, called the name of the MP, first Deputy head of the faction PPO Igor Kononenko. According to the newspaper, another candidate for the post of the first Deputy chief of staff Vitaliy Kovalchuk. At the same time, later he Kononenko said “112 Ukraine”that it plans to apply for the post of head of the Odessa regional state administration.
Mikheil Saakashvili from 2004 to 2013 he was President of Georgia. Then he went to USA, he was engaged in teaching. At home against Sakashvili initiated four criminal cases, including on charges of misappropriating public funds for personal needs. Head of the Odessa region, Saakashvili was appointed on 30 may 2015. Before that, he received Ukrainian citizenship.
Last month, Georgia held parliamentary elections – the first round took place on 8 October and the second on October 30. By results of voting the constitutional majority got the party “Georgian dream”. The former ruling party “United national movement”, founded by Saakashvili, was soundly defeated in the second round after failing to win a single mandate.
