Poroshenko instructed to sue Russia because of the environmental damage from the bridge across the Kerch Strait
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko instructed to sue Russia for environmental damage from the construction of the Kerch bridge. About it reported in a Twitter press Secretary of the President Svyatoslav Tsigalko on the results of the meeting in the Ivano-Frankivsk regional state administration.
No details, he did not, but the Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly expressed complaints about this bridge, linking the mainland with the Crimea. The Ukrainian foreign Ministry said that the bridge is illegal under international law, because Ukraine did not give consent for its construction.
In may, the Prosecutor of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, based in Kiev opened criminal proceedings upon violation of rules of ecological safety during the construction of the bridge across the Kerch Strait between Russia and occupied the Peninsula of Crimea (article 236 of the Criminal code of Ukraine).
The Prosecutor’s office, referring to the information professionals pointed out that extensive work can turn the sea of Azov in the black sea Bay, and the “abrupt change in water chemistry will lead to the death of many living organisms, including dolphins, which are listed in the Red book”, says “Interfax-Ukraine”.
The Prosecutor’s office said that the construction of a bridge in the Strait could lead to regional environmental disaster and also will cause the deterioration of transport conditions of the Strait and create a risk of passage of transport between the supports.
In June, the Ukraine announced about the threat to national security because of the construction of the bridge, and in the Ministry of infrastructure and parliamentary Committee on transport has expressed concern about a possible reduction in the resolution precipitation cargo ships after construction of the bridge in the Kerch Strait. Claim preparation due to limitations of shipping in the Kerch Strait was announced by Deputy Minister of infrastructure of Ukraine Yuriy Lavrenyuk.
At the end of August it became known that the Ukrainian side has prepared a request to NASA with a request to assess the violations of environmental safety during the construction of the bridge.

Aug saidthat 23% of Ukrainian courts (at least 144 of the vessel) will not be able to enter the sea of Azov and the seaport of Mariupol will lose about 43% of its cargo handling. From the Crimean bridge in the port will be able to enter only vessels of length more than 160 m, draught not more than 8 m and not more than 33 meters elevation above the sea level.
“The Russian Federation, contrary to the UN Convention on the law of the sea sets the limit for the passage of ships through the Kerch Strait. So, the height of the arch will be limited to 33 m above sea level. In addition, if before the passage of the Kerch Strait has been permitted vessels with length up to 200 m, it is now the Russian Federation declares about the limitation of the allowed length of 160 meters”, – stated in the Ministry.
The Ministry of transport of the Russian Federation noted that the restrictions will be minimal and will not have a significant impact on the passage of vessels.
